Homeowners Contractors Connectors About BuildSource

Homeowners

What does it cost me?

Nothing. Homeowners never pay BuildSource. Contractors pay us when they claim a request.

Will contractors get my phone number?

No. They call you through a BuildSource number, and you won't see theirs either. If you give a contractor your number yourself, that's between the two of you.

How many contractors will call?

The number you choose: one, two or three. Nobody else gets your request.

Do I have to hire any of them?

No. Get the quotes and use none of them if you like. You owe nothing either way.

What texts will I get?

Three, unless you reply: a code to confirm your number, a confirmation with your reference number, and one follow-up about 30 days later asking whether the work went ahead. If you answer the follow-up, we may ask a few more questions, one at a time, and only while you keep replying. If you ask for a new code, we send one. We never send marketing texts. The details are in our SMS terms.

How do I stop it?

Reply STOP to any BuildSource text. You'll get one message confirming it, and nothing after that. Your request closes, its BuildSource number is disconnected, and no other contractor can claim it. You can also email [email protected].

Do I need an account or an app?

No. You confirm your request in your phone's browser, and that's it.

Do you check the contractors?

Not unless they're BuildSource Verified. Other contractors have signed up and pay to receive requests, nothing more. Check their license, insurance and references before you sign, as you would with anyone.

Some contractors carry the mark "BuildSource Verified · facts confirmed". It means we confirmed specific facts they gave us, such as completed projects, references, insurance and memberships, as of a date. It isn't an endorsement, a ranking or a guarantee of their work.

Who was the person who showed me the code?

A BuildSource connector: someone local who introduces neighbors to us. If you hire a contractor through them and the work goes ahead, the contractor pays them a referral fee. You never pay them, and they never see your details.

Contractors

What does it cost?

Signing up is free, and you can watch the requests in your area for as long as you like without paying. You pay when you claim a request: $25 for fencing and painting; $50 for landscaping, roofing, outdoor kitchens and foundation repair; $100 for pools, remodeling, solar and additions.

The most you pay in a month is $500, and every claim after that is free for the rest of the month. A month with no claims costs nothing. There is no monthly fee and nothing to cancel: if you stop claiming, you stop paying.

What is BuildSource Verified?

A free check. We confirm facts you give us, such as completed projects, references and insurance.

What is a request?

A homeowner who asked for quotes, confirmed their own phone number and chose how many contractors may call. Before you claim, you see the trade and the ZIP code. Up to three contractors can claim the same request, never more than the homeowner chose.

Do I get the homeowner's number?

No. You call through a BuildSource number, and the homeowner doesn't see yours.

What is the referral fee?

Some requests come through a connector's code. If one of those jobs goes ahead, you pay the connector a fixed referral fee, directly. The fees are published below. BuildSource never takes a cut of your job and never holds that money.

When is the referral fee due?

Seven days after the job is finished, or 30 days after it was signed, whichever comes first. That gives you time to collect from the homeowner, and a long job doesn't hold up the connector's fee.

What if the homeowner cancels?

If the job is cancelled before work starts, no fee is owed. Report it in the app within 30 days of signing. Once work has started, the fee stands.

What if a referral fee isn't paid?

We write to the contractor 7, 14 and 21 days after it's due, with the connector copied each time. If the contractor received those messages and the fee is still unpaid on day 28, their account is closed. If we couldn't reach them, or they dispute the fee, a person looks at it first. To dispute a fee, email [email protected].

What do you expect of me?

Call the homeowners you claim. Report what happened honestly: won, lost or cancelled, and the signed value. Pay referral fees when they're due. We check reported outcomes independently, and accounts that misreport are suspended.

Connectors

What does it cost to join?

Applying is free. If we offer you a seat, you pay $25 for a background check run by Certn. That's the only cost, and nobody can buy a seat. If anyone asks you for money to become a connector, it isn't us.

Do I have to sell anything?

No. You show your code to someone who's already planning work, and they ask for quotes on their own phone.

How do I get paid?

The contractor pays you directly, from the schedule below, once the job goes ahead. It's due 7 days after the job is finished, or 30 days after it was signed, whichever comes first. BuildSource never holds the money, but we track whether it's been paid.

What if a contractor doesn't pay?

We write to the contractor 7, 14 and 21 days after the fee is due, and you're copied each time. If the contractor received those messages and the fee is still unpaid on day 28, their account is closed. If we couldn't reach them, a person looks at it first. An unpaid fee never lapses on its own.

How much can I earn?

We don't promise any amount. There's no salary. It depends on how many neighbors you help, whether the work goes ahead, and the trade and size of each job.

Why are seats limited?

So each area has enough contractors to answer the requests, and so we know who our connectors are. A seat isn't a territory. When a homeowner scans a code, the person whose code it is gets the credit.

Can I help people outside my ZIP code?

Yes. Your seat is in the ZIP code where you live, because that's where we recruit contractors near you. A referral from anywhere pays the same.

What does a seat ask of me?

We expect you to make introductions. If you haven't made one by day 45, we'll remind you by text and in the app, and again on day 60. After that, an unused seat can go to the next person waiting. A person makes that call, never a timer. You can leave whenever you like, at no cost.

What if my application is turned down?

We'll tell you, and tell you what would make a future application stronger. You can apply again after 90 days.

About BuildSource

Who are you?

BuildSource is a service of Minslow Partners LLC, a Texas company. We're not a contractor. We don't perform, supervise or guarantee any work.

Where do you operate?

Across the USA.

What do you do with my information?

Only what the service needs. We never sell personal information, and no mobile information is shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing. The details are in our Privacy Policy.

What won't you do?

  • We don't vet contractors, and we never tell a homeowner we did.
  • Nobody can pay to be recommended, ranked or picked.
  • We never hold referral money. The contractor pays the connector directly.
  • We never give a homeowner's number to a contractor.
  • We make no claim about what a request is worth to a contractor, because we don't have the data to back one up.

How do I reach a person?

Email [email protected]. A person answers.

Referral fees

The contractor pays the connector directly, 7 days after the job is finished or 30 days after it's signed, whichever comes first. BuildSource never holds the money.
